The first thing you really should keep clean, as far as your car is concerned, is your car's engine. Lots of people with clean the outside and sometime take a swipe at the upholstery but will neglect to clean the engine. Sometimes, oil will spatter all over the engine compartment because of a busted oil seal. If the engine compartment isn't cleaned, your electrical wires will start to corrode earlier than they should because of the corrosive properties of engine oil.

Bring your car over to a place where they clean car engine compartments. They add something to the water spray so that dirt and oil stains are immediately washed away. Since you are hear anyway, have them spray the underside of your car as well. Get some of the mud off from under your car.

If you are a die hard DIY, get a sponge and some liquid soap, spray your engine with water (make sure to cover the distributor cap) and soap away. For those sticky oil and grease stains, use some liquid gas to get rid of the stains.

For cleaning the body of the car, I normally use liquid detergent. There are plenty of car shampoos but liquid detergent is much cheaper. They serve the same purpose anyway. Just squirt some detergent into a water bucket and fill it up with water. Spray your car with water and soap your car using a sponge. Try to get your sponge into those spaces that are hard to clean like the edges of the doors. The longer the dust stays, the harder it gets to remove. It also turns white if you leave it long enough. Don't forget to clean the gasoline inlet. Just open the hinge for the compartment and clean way. Do not remove the cap or cover to the tank. When done, remove the soap with a fresh spray of water. Dry your car with a piece of cloth that has good liquid absorbing properties.

Your car wax, not the shampoo, will determine how good the car looks and how long it stays that way. Be sure to use good quality car wax to give your car that remarkable shine and paint longevity. Mind you, some waxes may hasten the deterioration of car paints. Be sure to investigate car waxes well before buying one. Just use a piece of cloth and apply the wax to the car surface in a circular motion. Once the wax application is done, use another cloth and wipe off the car also using the same motion. Do this panel by panel. That way, the wax doesn't have that much time to dry off.

Applying upholstery cleaners to your car upholstery is the same as waxing the body of your car. Just use a good upholstery cleaner so as not to damage your seat covers and other upholstered panels in the interior of the car.

When it rains, the water usually pebbles on the surface of your windscreen or windows until they become too heavy that they roll down. This also happens to your side mirror. It can become difficult to drive a car because of these conditions. Take heart though, you can apply a chemical coating to the glass surfaces so that water immediately slides off. I personally use RainX for this purpose. To apply it, clean and dry the glass surface first, then use another clean, dry towel to apply the chemical using circular motions. After five minutes, wipe it off with another clean, dry towel using the same circular motions.
